How the moon met the sun

We met on a beach at 2 AM, over a turtle nest. Nila tells it by moonlight, Aditya by daylight. Every chapter, told twice: once by her, once by him.

    Feb 2022

    “STOP.”

    ☾Nila: 2 AM, Besant Nagar beach, a volunteer about to step on a nest. The first word I ever said to him was STOP.

    ☀Aditya: I went on a turtle walk for a dare. I stayed until sunrise because of the girl who shouted at me.

    Apr 2022

    Hatchlings

    ☾Nila: He came back two months later to watch the eggs hatch. Nobody comes back.

    ☀Aditya: Ninety-two hatchlings ran into the sea. I only watched one person.

    2022–2025

    Chennai–Bengaluru

    ☾Nila: Five hours on the Shatabdi, every other weekend. He coded; I slept on his shoulder.

    ☀Aditya: I shipped two games on that train.

    The proposal

    ☾Nila: He made me a game: a hatchling crossing a beach. The last level ended with a ring. I finished it in three minutes.

    ☀Aditya: It was meant to take twenty. I'd forgotten she's faster than turtles.

    Two families

    ☾Nila: Amma made sambar. His mother made sambar. There were two sambars. Nobody lost.

    ☀Aditya: Ammamma and Paati don't share a language. They talked for three hours.

    Sun meets moon

    ☾Nila: Full moon on the 22nd. We checked.

    ☀Aditya: Sunrise on the 23rd. We checked that too.

Everything in Chennai is pure vegetarian. The Kochi reception has a non-veg table too.
